When describing your career experience on your resume, it is important to indicate the responsibilities that you have performed in previous jobs. As a rule, this is necessary so that the employer knows what tasks you have already had experience with (and how much), as well as what benefits you can bring to the company.

How to describe basic responsibilities on a resume

First of all, you shouldn’t write them in a separate paragraph, everything is described in the section “Work experience”. For each enterprise – 5-7 main responsibilities. Don’t confuse this graph with the achievement graph – responsibilities show your area of ​​responsibility at work, while achievements show concrete results.

Each job is arranged according to the following scheme:

  • month and year of start and end of work;
  • position, employment (full / part);
  • company name, form of ownership, field of activity, website;
  • job responsibilities;
  • achievements.

When listing your responsibilities, it is important to display the functionality for which you were responsible, you can use more specifics and numbers (for example, the size of the department that you headed, or the number of projects that you managed). Write your most significant responsibilities first.

It is also useful to look at the vacancy text: what responsibilities are spelled out there? Which ones have you encountered before?

To form the most effective list of responsibilities, first write down everything that you have done in previous jobs. And then adapt it to the vacancy for which you are applying for a resume: cross out those points that are not very significant or not at all useful in a potential job. If some responsibilities are repeated for different companies, structure everything so that the employer sees that with each job, your functions become more complex and expanding.

At the same time, of course, do not attribute to yourself what you did not do, as lies can be revealed during an interview or in the process of working in a new company.
